An incredible film
Compassionate and corruscating this is a work of sustained and ultimate brilliance.

Of all Scorsese's films this is the only one I really admire and love.
shareIt is a great film.
shareIt sounds like some people really hold this film in high esteem. To me it lumbered along until she became a waitress, and things seemed to pick up in all departments, acting (Diane Ladd), editing, and good writing between Alice and her son and the staff at the diner. Unfortunately, what we also get is Kris Kristofferson. I am pretty easy going about acting generally, because in real life, some people hardly emote at all. But Kris seemed to be phoning it in. The rock music used in the film was always great, indicative of Scorsese's passion and good taste. And his exuberant camera was always in evidence, although I could have done with a little less wide angle handheld anticipatory work. And it is a melodrama, but I laughed out loud when Alice and What's His Name (Kristofferson) had that public confrontation and he said, "I don't give a damn about that ranch." I guess it's because of his wooden delivery. Anyhow, I am a Scorsese fanatic and now have seen all of his feature length films except for New York, New York. Alice is worth seeing, and quite a change of pace for him.
shareYeah..it's definitely one that shows his talent. It seems his energy is so apparent in his earlier films. He really likes FAST,FAST,FAST....
