Monterey Restaurant?

Can any of you Tusconians tell us what street Alice and Tommy are walking down at the very end of the movie? The intersecting street is Rook. We are wondering if the Monterey Restaurant is still there or if it's been demolished. We live in Colorado and Google isn't of any help. Thank you!

I asked a lifelong Tucsonan about this and was told that there wasn't actually a Monterey Restaurant (in the movie or in real life). The Monterey sign in the movie was for the shopping center which is located in East Tucson at Speedway & Wilmot. It is still there and still called Monterey (as I mentioned in the recent thread ("Does anybody know whereabouts the diner filming location was").

I would bet that there are Google street views for that intersection - I'm pretty sure the Monterey shopping center is in the SW corner of Speedway & Wilmot. It's just a strip mall, there's nothing much to see except an ocean of parked cars in front of the shops.

Thanks so much cynicphile. "Alice" is one of our favorite movies and Tucson is one of our favorite cities and so we always scratch our heads when we watch the movie. Thanks so much for clearing up the mystery.

When I visited Tucson in 1988, the Monterey Village sign was still there. There was an identically-shaped sign also on the east-to-west side that was blank. I also found "Chicago Music Store" where Jodie Foster shoplifts the guitar strings. It may have been called something else, but it was the same store. I asked the owner if he ever saw the picture and he didn't know what I was talking about (!!)
