the GUITAR

I have been a big fan of this pic forever….does anyone know the rationale behind the several close-ups of the sound whole of the acoustic guitar, accompanied by the swelling of the dramatic music in the background? or is it yet another example of the director's ineptness??

I don't know the rationale but I was thrilled when Brother Bluto smashed it against the stairway wall.

Seriously, it just looked like over the top artiness thrown in for no reason. Ineptness is a great way of characterizing it.

Even before takeoff the Captain tells the co-pilot that the chief engineer told him that they might have a problem with engine # 3 then during the flight the co-pilot takes note of a slight vibration on engine #3. The strings of the guitar was able to pick up the vibration and a cord, like a tuning fork rang out just enough for the mother to notice it. A foreboding of future events.

The strings vibrated in "Sympathy" (Similar to the underside strings of an Indian Sitar) to the rough running Pratt & Whitney JT9D Turbofan engine (#3 out of 4). The interesting part is, when you hear the strings vibrate, it's an electric guitar, as opposed to an acoustic instrument in the film. Those dang budgets again.
