The Zombie

Damn! I was scared! I was a kid at the time. I'm an adult now but it still manages to be very creepy. The most intense scene was the scene where he kills Spizato (how ever you spell his name) in the alley. The ways he yells for help and you hear the disgusting crunch. The creepiest scene was the scene in the cemetery.

It's a superior episode alright.

My fave episode of the series. All those great guest stars. And Kolchak crawling into that old car with the zombie. One would imagine the smell coming off of that dead guy!😡

reply

I would be wondering about the smell coming out of Carl when the Zombie opened it's eyes.

reply

The one thing I don't like about it is the inconsistency. In all the earlier scenes, the zombie lumbers around slowly, which is all he needs to do because he can't be killed. But in the junkyard, he's pretty darn spry when he goes after Kolchak. I've always thought slow-moving monsters were scarier. Like in your nightmares when there's such a monster coming after you. You run and run, but every time you stop to rest or hide, you see it's still coming slowly, inexorably, inescapably towards you. Or like the mummy in the really old movies.

Also my favorite. Great writing and excellent performances by the cast. My one quibble is the scene where the zombie hitches a ride on a bus and nobody bats an eyelash! Surely the stink and the man's atrocious appearance would've alarmed some of the other riders?

Agreed. And it's not like the zombie has exact change in his pocket either.

I think this has to be the #1 talked about continuity error in the entire series.

I watched this episode the other day. So far two good episodes.

I'll let you know when I come-up with a new signature, .

Your not kidding. I think it was terrifying when he was actually trying to sew its mouth shut and it woke up!

The Zombie is a superior episode. It’s too bad the series couldn’t keep up this level of quality. I think four of the first five episodes are really well done.

reply

Hey,
I feel the same! I was born in the early seventies and saw this show in the eighties. Yes, as an adult, I’m still terrified. They don’t make shows and movies like this these days. The best vampire movie of all times is β€œSalem’s Lot”. I know in the book the vampire speaks but in the movie, he didn’t. The jailhouse and funeral home scenes are the scariest. This may come across as corny you, but checkout the vampire movie with David Naughton, β€œDesire, the Vampire”. The full movie is on YouTube. It’s creepy just like Kolchak.

good call on the great Salem's Lot, also my favorite vampire film. Let's hope the re-make gives the proper justice.

reply

There’s a remake to β€œSalem’s Lot”? I agree with you that it needs proper justice! You know some remakes should never happen.

reply

This will actually be the second remake. Like "IT" this one is going to theaters, probably as a two parter. Bill Pullman's son was just signed on to play the lead.

reply

The vampire should be silent just like in the original version. His silence made him more mysterious and frightening!!!
