What did the woman/robot give him in jail?

The woman/robot gives him what I assume is some kind of explosive because just after this the wall blew up but I didn't see anything on the tray she brought him but coffee and a couple of rolls. What did I miss?

reply

Looked to me like she gave him a note, probably said stay away from the wall you're friends about to blow it up.

reply

Nah I don't think that's what happened because we never saw James Brolin's character set up the bomb and the bomb clearly blew up from inside the jail

reply

Stick of dynamite concealed under the tablecloth on the tray, which the grey-haired sheriff partially glanced under.

Remember, as he took the tray, the guest became also fidgety, prepared himself by putting his hat on and kept looking at the sherrif. Also, his friend remained a good distance away, having mounted his horse, friends bandolier over his shoulder and watched the jail before KABOOM!!

My question is, how do you survive an explosion large enough to blow out most of a heavy brick wall when you're in the same jail cell with the bomb?

If you look at the other exterior wall during the explosion, you can see that the pressure wave nearly takes down the whole jail.

<insert some sfi-fi explanation about how explosions in Westworld can't hurt Guests>

reply

Well, the same way actors survive a close-by "explosion" in movies - they use props. The bricks could be all kinds of material like plastics, carefully arranged to "blow up" with the dynamite being nothing more than basically a flashbang grenade. The same way the bottles and chairs break on guests during the saloon brawl. You are not supposed to examine every last little detail in Westworld (at least not until they get the hands right). It's a show. And I assume they gotta break out a lot of guests outta jail, so this was probably a fairly routine display of pyrotechnics effects.

If you look carefully at the tray you'll see a black coffee some bread rolls a note under the coffee cup and something black which, when I first saw it 30 years ago, I thought was a gun, but it must be a stick of explosive.

In reality this is probably one of MC's post-edits to move the story along faster.
