OMG with the gum chewing.

I've never seen this movie before and I'm watching it on oxygen right now. There are so many references to this movie in popular culture so I figured I should watch it.

I'm only 25 minutes in, and the gum chewing is driving me bonkers.

That drove me nuts, as did the finger nail shots.

Bueller...Bueller...

gum chewing....ugh!, her fingernails drove me crazy too!

Surprisingly, I never noticed the gum chewing until you guys said something, and I've watched it countless times! I watched it last night and finally noticed it... I wonder if anyone noticed how much gum they chewed during that movie.. hmmm.... As for the fingernails, that's a Bab's trademark. Notice how she has those nails in every film she does! My friends always joke that someday she would accidently take Hubbell's eye out while swiping his hair...

reply

ehehe yeah, me too I've noticed it right away. but the scene it gave me more to think about was when she was drinking a glass of beer with the Hubbel at the bar, with me thinking "is she going to throw that chewing gum in the street taking it with her fingers now"?

reply

ooh boy, that last thing you wrote - about Barbra taking his eyes out with her nails - I laughed and laughed:) thanks for that! it made my rainy day better:)!

I also didn't noticed the gum, or at least didn't noticed it in a way that would bother me. But the nails, oh the nails! They're really freaking me out! Especially 'cause she has such a thin arms and hands, so the nails are the only thing there is to see. Just creepy!

They only chewed gum when they were students.
I noticed this while watching the movie and thought it was a great idea to make them look convincingly young.

You can't justify bad behavior with other bad behavior but one must remember that a lot of people smoked like chimneys then and smoked everywhere. Maybe they were chewing gum to clean their breath or were in one of the few places then where they could not smoke. We have benefited that it has taken a generation to deglamourise (sic) smoking. Yes,I have tried it but never liked it or took to it and felt it was over rated. I am glad those days are over. It was hard to be a non smoker then with everyone wondering what was wrong with you because you did not smoke.

The nails are what always bothered me. Expecally during the " love scene" when she swipes her hair with her long nails. Oh and that creepy face she made. And the poking humble's eyes comment was hysterical.

I always thought it was absurd that she would try to pass herself off as a boy in Yentl with those hands. They are so small and delicate. I assume she didn't wear the "Vampira" fingernails for that role or did she?
