Herb Edelman was younger than Bradford Dillman

Nothing like a 36 year old playing a 20 year old college student and Dillman was in his 40s when this was filmed! But then again wasn't Anthony Perkins still playing teenagers when he was pushing 40?

"No! That’s not true at all. Elvis takes fifty percent of everything I earn." Col. Parker

Dillman was a well preserved man. This was also made evident on an episode of Mary Tyler Moore, where Dillman is dating Mary and he is divorced with an adult son, and it is found out that he is the same age as Lou Grant.

since the film spanned almost 20 years, they had to err on the side of age -- so sure, they chose someone who would be credible in the later scenes -- and it didn't really matter what his chronological age was in the college scenes, or later, for that matter.

Wish everyone would stop looking at the /actual/ age of the actors and just let acting be acting. that's why it's acting. it's not real life.

I think Herb Edelman was born middle aged and destined to play the same character for his entire career. Which is fine and it's always good to see him.
