The Way We Were vs. Mahogany

Not sure how many of you have seen Mahogany, which was released the same year as The Way We Were. Mahogany is my favorite movies.

The funny part is that the movies seems to have reversed the plot. In Mahogany, the male protagonist is the activist, who can't seem to focus on anything else, while Diana Ross's character wants to pursue her dreams of becoming a designer and doesn't want to focus on anything else, just like Hubble.

I would be interested in getting opinions on the two movies, if anyone is interested in watching Mahogany.

Mahogany was even worse as a movie, or was mahogany the character worse than hubble?

Not seen Mahogany since it was in the cinemas. I remember the theme song (still try to whistle it sometimes) and how beautiful Diana Ross was in it but that's about all really apart from the vague idea it was a very different kind of film and not really comparable with TWWW. It's probably the the time it's set but I'm actually surprised they came out at the same time.

Mahogany and TWWW didn't come out at the same time. TWWW was released in 1973, while Mahogany came out in 1975. Streisand was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress. Mahogany ruined the acting career of Diana Ross.

Two years is not so far apart for the two film but you're right, I do remember a lot criticism of DR's performance; especially in comparison to Lady Sings the Blues. I actually saw them as part of a double bill in a post exam brain dead fugue state and at the time preferred Mahagony. It would be interesting to see them both again.
