I've always wondered about the "game" Hubble & J.J. Were always playing. They asked questions like, "best ice cream" or "best USO" etc... Is there a point to this game? Does it even Exist? Or was it just something put in the film? I mean like how does one come up with the right answer? Can anyone answer this question? Thanks I. Advance & God bless you
There are no right answers. The best game is just a game of one-up-manship or 'I have one better than you do.' The game is stupid on its face like so much else in this horribly dated movie.
Recall that out in Hollywood, they had a Marx Brothers party where everyone went dressed up like one of the Marx Brothers, Groucho, Harpo, Chico, etc. They all looked like jerks and went around smoking cigars, honking horns, etc. The whole thing was stupid and an embarrassment.
Throw in the fact that Robert Redford, despite his glamour boy looks, simply can't act, has no depth at all, as well as Streisand or Babs the clothes horse, and the entire picture falls through the floor of the sound stage it was shot on.
Arthur Laurents, the screen writer, is a very smart guy, responsible for some of the biggest musicals on Broadway, but with this story he just did not make it.
Disagree with you on all points. This movie remains a classic. Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand were simply perfection in their respected roles. And the title song will forever be one of the greatest movie songs of all time.
The movie is a typical Hollywood weepy, as might have come out in the 1940's with Bette Davis or Joan Crawford. Those earlier films were easier to accept on their own terms and can be watched today, because they were products of that lost studio era. The Way We Were on the other hand, is mainly a vanity vehicle for Streisand, and she is just not appealing enough to sustain it.
