There are similarities. Not a remake though.

The Phenix City Story and Walking Tall are based on 2 real persons. Albert Patterson and Buford Pusser. Some interesting trivia:

I remember Edward Andrews was very good The Phenix City Story in a villainous role. He looked avuncular. He usually portrayed genial characters. He was a big man, about 6 foot 2 or 3 with broad shoulders. He was really menacing in this movie.

Both films are good.
