The ending of the last story?
He forgets his watch. And then he desperately runs to get it back. Why?

shareHe didn't want there to be any evidence that he was at the scene of the crime.
shareThat's the thing that gets me -- since the third cheater commited suicide under Moore's power, it didn't matter that he left his watch there. It's not like he left the portrait with the obvious painted-on "bullet wound".
Besides, the secretary let him in before she was sent away for the evening, so unless he killed her too, which _definitely_ would've looked suspicious even if the police couldn't prove anything, it could still get back to the police that he was there before the "suicide" occured.
I think that everyone is analysing these stories far too much. They are meant to be chilling and blackly funny-they don't stand up to such close scrutiny, and if you over analyse these, then you miss the point totally.
