Glynis Johns looked really ancient

The trivia section says, "The character played by Glynis Johns is presented as an innocent young thing who is the daughter of a contemporary of her husband's (Terry-Thomas), but at the time of filming Ms. Johns was fifty years old." (She plays Eleanor in "The Neat Job".)

I thought she looked really craggy and ancient when I was watching. Couldn't they have found someone a bit younger, like in her 20s?

Glynis Johns was dogged by poor health for a lot of her life. That is why she looks the way she does .

She looked all right for a fifty year old. Just too old for the part, is the point I was making.

I reckon that the age the role was supposed to be.
often actors playing age is very wide.
Also Terry-Thomas was 10years older than Giynis Johns maybe they could not cast someone too younger or maybe these two actors were not first choices.

I also thought that it was silly that she was played as a 'silly young thing' and a trophy wife. She was clearly at least the same age as TT and looked way older than 50!

The dialogue previous to her first appearance led me to believe she would be much younger. But it didn't take too much away from it for me, as these are all just fun comic-book based stories.

The script did suggest that she'd run out of options at this time and had to settle ie no career to fall back on.
