Cornerstone/Blackhors e version

There has been discussion of the versions by Fox (some of the best scenes cut) and by Vipco (out of business), but nothing on the current version sold by Amazon UK, so here are a few points:

1. Amazon UK says, Studio: Blackhorse Entertainment, but this company has been dormant for some time. It is actually Cornerstone Media International (which has the same address as Blackhorse and presumably has taken over its operations).

2. It is uncut and has Daniel Massey tapped, Terry-Thomas neatly filed, and the art dealer truncated, in full detail.

3. It appears to be Region 0 and so should play anywhere. I say appears to be because there is a square with rounded corners, as is normal for the region box, with a 0 in it, but no background image of the world. Again, Amazon UK is wrong here: they say Region 2 but there is quite definitely no indication of this on the packaging or the DVD itself.

I imagine Amazon would get a few of these in for US customers if asked.

As to the film itself, it might not be the best Amicus but it certainly isn't the worst: it is much better than Dr Terror's House of Horrors, for example. If you like Amicus stuff you'll like this one. It's lots of fun. And I'd add that the bits cut in the Fox version aren't just 'bits of glossy British red paint;' two are genuinely quite disturbing.

Edit: Amazon UK has now made the changes suggested above.

Thanks for this info.

However, is this release widescreen, or still 4:3 is the Vipco DVD?

reply

It is stated to be 16:9. This sounds right, but it is a few weeks since I watched it.

I own that release. It is definitely fully uncut and Region 0, however, it is *not* widescreen. It's 4:3, contrary to what it says on the box.
