Tom Bakers Death

why was Tom Baker's character so determined to get his watch back?.. It was obvious that he'd been to the office, the secretary buzzed him in and the painting was there.

Plus the evidence would've pointed to suicide.

But anyway, I think because the safe nearly suffocated his self portrait he probably wasn't thinking too well, and remembering the watch, he panicked. You can tell he's light headed before his portrait is ruined and he's killed.

I'm not sure why he made a self portrait at all, especially after getting his voodoo powers. He should've known something like this would happen, unless he figured if the portrait stays perfect he could probably live forever. Sort of like that guy in LEAGUE OF EXTRODINARY GENTLEMEN.

Tom Baker began his self-portrait before he went to the voodoo guy. He simply finished it afterward. He knew he couldn't detroy it, even in its early form, so he went ahead and finished it.

But he shouldn't have.

Good point of view Wallace, I'd never of thought of that..... I think the guy you're talking about from TLOEG was Dorian Gray, another good film. Thanks for your reply....

What I find strange is the fact that he's nearly suffocating then the first thing he does after opening the safe is he has a cigarette

Tom Baker's death should not have happened anyway. The killing power came from him creating then destroying the art Himself. Also for the "Safe" part to work would also mean he would never be able to blink his eyes or wear different clothes.

I'm not quite sure why his portrait being in the safe would mean he couldn't blink or change his clothes. He painted the men who had cheated him but they were still blinking and moving around until he changed their portraits. Which would suggest, of course, that his portrait being in the safe shouldn't mean he should suffer because of the airlessness of the safe, because the painting itself hadn't been changed. Having said that, I always liked the part where he became short of breath, but equally wondered why it took so long for him to become so; there's not much air in a safe, after all!
The guy who allowed the voodoo curse didn't say the power could only come from the painter creating then destroying the work himself, as far as I remember - well, actually, I don't remember him saying much at all!
