Jim Maclain's Musical Background

The story of Maclain's musical development was woefully underdone in this. Other than playing his harmonica (once) and writing occasional verse there is no indication that music is going to become his life's work. It isn't till the very end, after leaving his family behind, that he buys a guitar and we get an indication that he may become a serious musician. I think that is too late to be believable, considering he would have been nearly 21 to start playing guitar. They could have cut some of the fairground stuff to have him developing his musical chops.

I do love this movie and it's not supposed to be anymore than a fictional tale conveying the era of the UK and the story of a restless young guy in the late 1950's. And it does that well
