Artwork Between Segments - Who is the artist? Where are they now?
??
shareRicard Amsel did the original movie poster art for the film but I can't say with certainty that he did the segment placards. He died in 1985 after an impressive career of doing movie posters.
shareThanks for the reply... From the overall appearance of the drawings I'd say they were done by the same person.
'Three can keep a secret ... if two are dead'
From the Trivia section:
"Edith Head designed a wardrobe of snappy period costumes for the cast, and artist Jaroslav Gebr created inter-title cards to be used between each section of the film that were reminiscent of the golden glow of old Saturday Evening Post illustrations - a popular publication of the 1930s."
When I watched the movie I was sure Norman Rockwell must have been the artist because the paintings look so much like his work, but it seems they were just made to look like it.
I was watching the first half of this today and wondering why, with all that Hollywood money, they couldn't have paid Norman Rockwell himself to do the title cards. That would have been glorious!
shareProbably pricey as hell, and he was 5 years from death when this came out...so he probably wasn't keen on taking stressful jobs.
shareThe artwork is clever. However, it was intended to evoke 1936, but when I see it now, it just looks more like 1973 than the 1930s.
