Lines


It seems to me that Redford had a lot more screen time and lines than Newman.

Contrast with Towering Inferno, when Newman and McQueen made sure they had the exact same number of lines.

So was it not an issue here? Did Redford get more money, if he had more lines?


It should be against the law to use 'LOL'; unless you really did LOL!

SM and PM were more like rivals. PM and RR were more friends, and as such, probably weren't overly worried abt an exact balance of lines.

Someone pls correct me if you've heard/read differently.

According to a book about Steve McQueen, Steve was the one who had it in his contract that he and Newman get the same amount of lines in "The Towering Inferno. Paul Newman didn't care about it one way or the other.

I think you're correct that Redford's character was the focal one. The story is more about him than any other single character.
