Yeah, but
Lonegan would have eventually learned about the con, and would have had Gondorff and Hooker killed.
Ya follow?
It should be against the law to use 'LOL'; unless you really did LOL!

How would Lonegan learn about the con? The place was broken down, all the players scattered. The only lead he has is the telegraph office. So he goes there and sees the real guy and then what? No high speed travel to go where to search? NYC, Chicago, west coast, Mexico, Canada? He only really paid attention to Gondorff, Hooker and Kid Twist; everyone one else involved were low-level grifters. Lonegan probably never even paid attention to them.
No internet searches. All the players are long-gone. He may guess it's a con, but I don't think he could really do anything about it. I don't think Snyder would tell him anything since the FBI told him to keep it quiet. Maybe Snyder would get snuffed; okay by me.
SPOILERS:
No, because:
1) Lonnegan saw Gondorff kill Kelly (aka Hooker) and the Feds kill Gondorff in the final scene; and
2) The con was arranged so that Lonnegan knows that the error was his - he made his bet to win though he should have made it to come in second ("place").
Well go ahead, explain your hypothesis.
