The people who rated this a "1"

Over 1350 people visited this page and rated the movie a "1". Now, I'm all for people's right to exercise their opinion, but I've never ceased to be amazed as to how many trolls are crawling around the IMDb boards.

Yes it's insane. I can't really imagine what would motivate them...if only we could get some of them to answer/explain truthfully. Maybe they feel the story is immoral, or something like that, which overrides any entertainment value.

It's just ridiculous. I understand that every movie, no matter how acclaimed, has its detractors. There are a number of critically lauded, beloved films that I just don't like. But to grade a film a 1? A "1" should be reserved for the lowest of the low; a film that has little redeemable quality. Some folks just indiscriminately assign extremely high and/or extremely low ratings based on nonsense like "I didn't care for that movie! I don't understand why it has an 8.2. I'm giving it a 1!" or "I really like that movie! It's nowhere near a 10, but I'm going to give it a 10 because I have no understanding of cinema!"

I really wish there was a way from banning these troglodytes from rating the films.

Bad childhoods motivate them.

These are people who are trying to lift their favorite movies in the top 250 by lowering the classics and have never taken the time to view them. Most likely Nolan fanboys trying to push up Batman.

I think you hit the nail on the head, Thomspike.

Thornspike is absolutely correct

Over time I've come to believe that the phenomenon also includes people who just like to be negative in a vandalistic sort of way. I think some people just rate one star, or thumbs down, or not helpful, anything that is popular, or gets good ratings or possibly just because someone has posted something. Their only intent is to negate something. What lives they must lead.

Perhaps some in their haste misunderstood the rating system here, and thought "1" was the highest mark (not the lowest). I mean, "1" is numero-uno, number 1, pretty good, right?

reply

I'm not as enthralled about "The Sting" as a lot of people are, but I sure ass hell wouldn't rate it low. I think it's incels trying to manipulate the ratings to help comic book movies get to the top.
