"Made a fool outta you is what he did".......

Question about Lonnegan. This has probably already been covered, but...

When Lonnegan drops "Kelly" off at his place, Lonnegan's men, staking out Hooker's room, try to kill Hooker.

How does Lonnegan NOT make the connection that the Hooker that he's ordered dead is "Kelly"?

He doesn't happen to catch that he dropped off "Kelly" at the exact spot where his hit men were waiting to kill Hooker?

reply

Lonnegan "stayed away from the day-to-day stuff" as one of Gondorf's men said in the planning meeting. I doubt he was kept up to speed about where Riley and Cole, his hitmen, were going to look for Hooker. And Lonnegan never asked them the address of the apartment they were staking out. Is it reasonable to have expected him to ask the two hitmen that address? Hard to say, what are the odds they would have given him the same address he dropped off some guy named Kelly after arriving at the train station?

reply

They aren't Lonnegan's men, they are Snyder's, and they're there technically to arrest not kill him (though I think Snyder's instructions aren't that specific).

reply

They are Lonnegan's men. We see them in a scene the next day reporting to him about how they failed to kill him. That's when Lonnegan puts Salino on the job.

Okay, thanx.
