I always wondered what happened to Thorn...
My guess has always been that he died from the injuries and that the word never really spread about Soylent Green.
shareMy guess has always been that he died from the injuries and that the word never really spread about Soylent Green.
shareI imagine he was turned into Soylent Green not long after the movie is over.
shareThe fact that the closing credits feature music and imagery that Sol saw while he was being euthanized tells me that Thorn, too, was "put to sleep."
"It's People..."
Considering how hammy Chuck was in this, it would be entirely appropriate that Thorn wound up getting eaten.
share'hammy Chuck,' LOL, hahahahaha.
The best diplomat I know is a fully charged phaser bank.
I just saw this movie tonight for the second time (first viewing, over 40 years ago) and I kept an eye out for the "hamminess" everyone keeps claiming Charlton Heston channeled in this; sorry, peeps, but if anything he UNDERPLAYED until the final scene!
Now, don't tell ME that Heston "overacted" in that last scene, because of
(1.) The nature of the disturbing information yielded in Thorn's (Heston's) investigation; and
(2.) There's more overdramatic theatrics going on right now, in the wake of the 2016 presidential election, than anything Heston says or does in SOYLENT GREEN; heck, every dysfunctional family has a "drama queen" family member whose daily, over-the-top theatrics make Heston's performance look tame in comparison!
What it really is, is that the Heston haters are projecting their resentment of Heston for his later in life stances as a conservative and NRA honcho, onto every last film he ever made, even going back to his earlier career when Heston was considered "a good liberal!"
That's what I always thought....that he became little green crackers himself.
shareEven his boss clearly didn't believe him and the "powers that be" would have made sure he was permanently silenced.
My people skills are fine. It's my tolerance of morons that needs work.
I don't agree that he clearly did not believe him. Look at the expression on his face. He DOES believe him.
Heston will likely continue to be questioned by his boss in the hospital. The factory is easy to spot and they couldn't get rid of the evidence if it was raided.
All this speculation of whether Heston lives or dies does not matter. The word is out, or if not by Heston, it will be. You can't keep that a secret forever, someone at one of the many processing centers will spill the beans.
The only thing that matters is that this was one last desperate attempt to save humanity, and it failed. Heston stated, the plankton is dying, which was their last bet, and what Soylent Green was supposed to be made out of.
So this is really about humanity dying, Heston being successful or not in getting the word out is immaterial.
Well considering that they wanted him to close the case and sign off on it,"The Dept wants to cooperate with the Governors office, right"? And Brock Peters says "Whatever you say sir" His Captain was the only one who knew that it was either Thorn or him. So your speculation is valid. They tried killing Thorn before. Now that he is wounded he is an easy mark and of course when he is reported dead, the Captain will know better then to question it.
shareHatcher promised that he would inform The Exchange about Thorn's discovery of Soylent Green's ingredient.
shareRemember their were people in the Church, the New Pastor, the Nun, the people who sought a bed their. Plenty of people heard about what Soylent Green was, as Thorn did not whisper it. "SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
shareagreed!
