White Chicks

reply

Wow, I didn't even consider white chicks. Far superior to sleeper on all counts. white chicks makes sleeper look like crossover.

The first time I saw this movie, when it first came out, I was literally falling out of my seat, rolling in the aisle, I was laughing so hard. Can't think of anything else that's made me laugh so hard, with the possible exception of Abbot and Costello doing "who's on first."

reply

I tell ya, it's right up there on my top-five list. The others are Blazing Saddles, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Dr. Strangelove and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

Bringing Up Baby, perhaps A Fish Called Wanda

airplane,
some like it hot,
the apartment
something about mary,
to be or not to be,
seven year itch,
genevieve,
Curse of the were-rabbit,

do you want more?

reply

I'll never understand how anybody could think Airplane is a better/funnier movie than Sleeper. It's got a few decent gags like the slapping bit with the hysterical woman but it really doesn't compare.

reply

The fact that Woody Allen has the sense of humor that MIGHT make children laugh is a good point. It's so childish it didn't compare to write a lot of comedies.

I actually think it's about the worst comedy I've seen with the possible exception of the junk that comes over from Europe.

reply

I like Sleeper a lot, but these movies have made me laugh more:

Naked Gun
Airplane!
Bruno
Dr. Strangelove

It's spelled Raymond Luxury Yacht, but it's pronounced 'Throat-Warbler Mangrove'

woody`s everything you always wanted to know about sex made me laugh harder than sleeper.

reply

I love Sleeper. It may not be funnier, but I had the same bursting-out-laughing response to "Death at a Funeral"; the original. That was hilarious!

reply

The first time I saw Sleeper, on television in the early 80's I laughed so hard that I was in pain and missed a few good lines because of it. The only other films than have had me close to such a frenzy of laughter that I can recall are 'Love & Death' and 'Take The Money And Run' and 'Richard Pryor Live In Concert'.
