Most of the discussion for this good, but not as good as The French Connection, movie appears to be centered on the fantastic car chase. But I have a very simple question about the plot: How did Buddy figure out his informant was working with the kidnappers? I was expecting at least a partial explanation at the end, but all Scheider did was mention "the blond guy," and the informant cracked. What was going on there?

That's a good question that's not explained very clearly, but here it is: When Buddy's in the White Tower restaurant he looks at a list of the mob kidnap victims and sees that the list corresponds to his book of suspects. He realizes this is not a coincidence and realizes that only one person could be responsible for the kidnapping plot.
