The Seven-Ups On AMC

It's on now...it had an introductory session where they discussed the making of the movie almost entirely in NY and without studio stages...and with real NY actors, not 'pretty boys.'

Will report back with more later.

I think you mean TCM.

Good for Pellicanos giving Bill Hickman props for the chase scene, and for calling it (rightly, IMO) the best chase in movies.

reply

Pelecanos (sorry, George).

reply

Yes, I meant TCM. Sorry for the error -- wish I could correct the title.

TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES -- not AMC !!!!

reply

BTW, the movie on TMC was about 103 minutes long. The movie started at the 4 minute mark on my DVR and ended right about the 1 hour 47 mark. There was a pre and post-movie discussion which was good to hear.

reply

My feelings exactly.

This is the best of the 3 famous Hickman chases in my opinion.

Also, as Pellecanos, noted, they used cars like your dad drove, mot sports cars or muscle cars. A big ol' Bonneville and a Ventura.

Great movie, really captured the NYC feel of that era.

I watched it last night. I have seen it before, but it had been a long time. I like older movies like this cause they use real actors whereas today, they go by looks and no talent. They probably would of had a love scene if this were made today and they would be driving Japanese cars.

It's MUCH better to this & pretty much any other well-done movie on TCM rather than to see it on AMC where the drama & immersion is interrupted by a damn Viagra commercial every 10 minutes.

reply

I watch NBC from 5-7 and everyday at least once, they play a damn Viagra or Cialis and also that one with the cougars talking about their vaginas.

reply

You are 100% correct. I refuse to watch movies that air on AMC because of this fact. They chop the hell out of them. For the longest time I did not like Sudden Impact because for years I had only seen the AMC version which edits out some key scenes of the story. Years later when I saw the uncut version, I said to myself that is not a bad movie. Not one of Eastwood's best but not bad. I can deal with commercial interruptions- I DVR everything and can FF through the commercials. Kind of messes up the flow, but I can and will not tolerate "edited for content and for the time allowed." NEVER. No effin' way.

P.S.- I timed it one time on an airing of The Godfather..10 minutes of movie yields 6 minutes of commercials. No joke.

reply

I no longer watch any movies on AMC due to the fact they butcher them, censor the language, and have way too many commercials.

Funny how times have changed, years ago Ted Turner was the one being demonized for colorization of the classics (and rightly so).
