Car Chase
If the movie was a little better the car chase would rank up there with Bullitt and The French Connection.

shareIt's good, but not as good as those two are.
shareMovie might be lacking in places but wins hands down with the car chase, superb.
shareExactly what I thought. The movie is barely a 5 but because of the chase it's a solid 6. Man that was good!
shareTo me this is a 9. Great 70s crime flick. And yeah, just maybe the best chase ever. Followed by Bullitt.
shareThis car chase was gripping, I use that word because that's how I describe that chase. Crowded New York streets, loud roaring car engines, screeching tires etc….. that chase had more realism in it to me than all of the other chases……….not to mention how the chase ended. That loud crash as that Ventura hit the back of that truck, as soon as that roof acted like an accordion against that truck, I was speechless !!!!!!!
shareJust watched this movie for the first time - solid 8/10 for me, and the car chase is probably the best I've ever seen in a film. Absolutely awesome.
shareAs Darth Vader would say: "Impressive...most impressive!"
Wow! That is one hair-raising car chase. You really feel the speed the whole way through! Really well done by all who engineered it and drove in it. Bonus points for the scouting crew to find the hilliest part of Manhattan to shoot that one part! It ain't San Francisco, but they got the most they could out of it. Plus, great cinematography, editing and sound work.
With the rest of the film being so low-key, you wonder if someone other than director Philip D'Antoni directed the car chase.

I was watching "the seven ups" tonight on TMC and I remembered something from the only other time I saw it - 40 years ago when it came out. I always confuse the car chase in it with "Bullitt" and I think I know why now. There are so many similarities - including a blue VW, driving over cross streets and going airborne, a driver and shooter who shoots at the pursuing car with a shot gun out the back driver's window, but just tonight I realize that the driver of the car in "Bullitt" is the same actor as the driver in "the Seven Ups" I came here to see who it is. He isn't listed in "Bullitt" but the driver in "The Seven Ups" is listed as "Ace Alagna". He doesn't have a credit for "Bullitt" I'm sure it's the same guy. How do I get IMDB to update his credits?
shareI also think they used some of the sounds of the Mustang from Bullitt and put it in The Seven Ups. Not all of the time, but here and there I think bytes were added for a more gripping feel…….it is my absolute favorite car chase EVER for me. Old strong cars from the 70's, freezing cold New York weather, the sounds of the cars crunching together towards the end and of course the demise of that cool looking Ventura into the back of the truck. I even loved the black Bonneville sedan that Carmine drove from the funeral parlor up until the car wash. Nothing those big looking cars of the 70's for me !!!!!!
shareThe great Bill Hickman was the driver and stunt meister in both Bullitt and The Seven Ups.
He was also the Fed that Popeye feuds with in The French Connection.
A better car chase was in The Dukes of Hazard, season 5 episode 1. The General Lee is chasing after a big tank called The Big Green Machine. I think that was the best car chase ever depicted on screen
shareI think it's better than both of them.
shareI liked the 7up car better.
shareThe highlight of the chase scene was the kids all turning and looking scared at the cars roaring at them, then all clearing out terrified and doing the same thing all over again for the second car.
Otherwise I don't really remember any specifics that made the chase really that great. There were a couple smashups here and there.
It wasn't anything to compare with the epic chase in GONE IN 60 SECONDS (the original) or even more-so in the abortive, but awesome, GONE IN 60 SECONDS 2.
