I would really like to see some similar films from the early '70s filmed in NY like this, The French Connection, and Marathon Man? Any recommendations?

Try BADGE 373 (1973). It has Robert Duvall playing an Eddie Egan-like character and Egan himself is in the movie. Scenes of NYC, urban blight just like in Seven Ups.

Across 110th Street comes closest.

Gritty early 70s NY, bad guys, bad cops, the mafia and very violent.

"You work your side of the street, and I'll work mine"
