Shots
This movie is so poorly shot. Scenes are acted and shot like in the early 30s. All dialogues were dubbed later. Camera jumps from one thing to another. It's not a good movie. It's a nervous breakdown.

shareWhich is just what is so good about it. At least, it's one of the things I like about it, and very much.
What I had in mind was boxing the compass.share
Winner's style of filming is either strongly liked or strongly hated. I like his work, I have to admit. But you are right about the dialogue. It's something he did often. Winner made an efficient film when he wanted to, so I don't know why this was such a problem for him.
There are moments when I'm left shaking my head. Did you notice when Lancaster slammed into that car in the alleyway? When he was moving towards the agents' car a second time, the car's rear was intact, no damage at all! Winner might have used the same footage twice! Come on! Where's the continuity person?
It was like watching a junior high film project. And just before that when Lancaster ducked down in the seat to make it appear from behind like he abandoned the car, he had his foot on the brake pedal illuminating the brake lights the whole time. Like the people following wouldn’t see that in the dark alley? It’s like the director wasn’t even trying.
