Prince John

I know this sounds a bit silly, but did anyone else felt pity for Prince John when he said that "mother always liked Richard best"? I know he's very cruel throughout this film, but when he says that, I always feel sorry for him. Even Disney villains have difficult relationships with their mothers!

You are not alone, I felt bad for him too! He is more of a victim than a villain, because Robin is always doing things to get a reaction out of him! In that sense he is like Captain Hook in Peter Pan. They both have an adversary who has so many clear advantages, and always manages to humiliate them in the end.
So I think we're supposed to have at least a little sympathy for these sorts of more human villains =)

Not me. Whenever "mother" is mentioned, I think it serves him right for being cruel. I hate him as he's my 2nd most hated Disney Villain after Scar in The Lion King. I wish Scar could kill him and tear off his royal blue clothing as they are both lions, did you notice? Tell me, did he know Robin was in disguise even before he had cut off his stork jacket with his sword? Did he set up the archery tournament as a trap for Robin so he can destroy Robin?

Yes. That's why he unmasked him in the first place.

He and Sir Hiss literally discuss this in the movie itself. Yes.

Prince John obviously had some unresolved issues, yes. I guess that contributed to him becoming a villain.

Intelligence and purity.
