Maid Marian and Prince John
At one point, Clucky says "Soon, your uncle Richard is going to have an outlaw for an inlaw."
Does that mean King John is Maid Marian's father or is someone else?

Nah, I think she was adopted by another one of Richard's brothers. I'm guessing it means that Prince John is her uncle too. I mean...she's a fox, and they're lions.
shareGood point. That makes more sense than her being biological.
shareShe's clearly not prince John's daughter or king Richard's daughter. It seemed like she was their ward though.

I was expecting there to be a love triangle of sorts, but John never showed Marion any romantic favor here. I suppose incest is a bit too taboo for a Disney cartoon--even if she's adopted or a ward.

Thery were also two different species. Not that it would matter in some other cartoons, but it seems like it does in this one (Marion and Robin were both foxes, for example).

Yeah, both Robin and Marion being foxes was certainly intentional. Now whether or not that was merely an aesthetic choice, Disney not being comfortable with interspecies romance being interpreted as condoning inter-racial relationships (this was the early 70s) or if they were merely going with nature; foxes mate with foxes, bears with bears, rabbits with rabbit, etc. I don't know.
