Prince John mentions his mother alot. Is she still alive? Why dont they show her in the film???

shareHis mother was Eleanor of Aquitaine who was still alive at the start of King John's reign and is described in the film by Sir Hiss as the Queen Mother. So, she probably is alive, but we just don't see her.
(Not sure who they'd cast in the part of an elderly Lioness anyway)

See Lion in Winter for a great telling of this historical, dysfunctional family. Katherine Hepburn plays Eleanor, Peter O'Toole, as Henry II, Anthony Hopkins as Richard (his first film role!). GREAT movie.
