Okay so I lost power last night and the ending was cut off the last thing i saw was Papillon turning to Degas and said that's the fourth wave.
So I put it to you did they both jump ?
And for anyone who read the book what happened to Degas?

Only Papillon jumped , louis Degas watched for a while as Papillon drifted away from the island then walked away back to his hut, the camera zoomed into Papillon laying on his back on the coconut raft as he shouted, "I beat you you Bastards" .... as the film faded a narration said he made it to the mainland and remained a free man, we then see pictures of devils island and the prison as it stands today ...overgrown and in disrepair, as the narrator explains how it did not outlast Papillon. hope that helps you.
