two questions?????????

When they are in the first work camp and the two men wrestle with the alligator, afterwards they eat with the third man and he pulls something out that looked like a white pill. he said "worst place for malaria" or something like that. he then shares it with Hoffman, and McQueens character and states he has more. What was that? I was thinking an antibiotic? But just curious.

Also, all of these boats that were bought were bought with cash. How did Hoffman's character get all this cash? Does he have it all with him? Surely if he did the other prisoners would have stolen it. It seemed he had this endless amount of cash on hand to buy these boats with. Can anyone explain this?

The white tablet would probably have been quinine. A drug commonly used to prevent malaria.
He kept his money rolled up and inserted up his rectum. At one point when he is about to pay a deposit for a boat, he excuses himself to go to the toilet. This would have been to retrieve some cash.
