Where the heck is Sean's Oscar for his impeccable performance??????

Sean Connery delivers what has to be one of the most intense, harrowing and painful performances ever created by an actor. Watching Connery come to terms with his own demons is a true gift from the acting Gods. This performance is the most anti-Bond that you will ever see Sean deliver. The man's range in this very dark film is a sight to behold. Thanks' to big Sean's acting abilities you get to watch a man's mind crumble into tortured pieces as he slowly realizes the horrible truth that will slowly overwhelm him. Kudos go out to Trevor Howard and the wonderful Ian Bannen who go toe to toe with Sean in this excellent and very overlooked film. It is a true film crime that Sean Connery did not receive an Oscar nomination for his stellar performance. Hearty congratulations go to Sidney Lumet for giving us film noir fans this excellent film.

Ian Bannen was very good too.

Where the heck is Sean's Oscar

He got it in 1987. The Oscar for The Untouchables clearly wasn't for that movie but more like an award for past work ignored, kind of like John Wayne for True Grit.

What about John Hopkins too? He wrote it and the original play.

He should have been at least nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for both this movie and the woefully underappreciated The Molly Maguires (with a truly powerhouse performance by Connery).

I actually thought that Hopkins’ script was the big weakness here. Lumet and the cast (Vivian Merchant and Trevor Howard, as well as Connery and Bannen) do good work but the dialogue is sometimes contrived and overwrought. Presumably this would be less obvious on stage.
