This sounds exactly like 8 1/2

I've only seen one Truffaut film so far {Shoot the Piano Player} and I loved it. I IMDB'd this movie because I heard great stuff about it and I'll defintely see it, but based on the IMDb provided plot, it sounds a lot like Fellini's 8 1/2, which I hated :P Are there major similarities?

Fellini's 8 1/2 is about the inability to make a movie. Day for Night is about what it's like to make a movie. 8 1/2 is tortured. Day for Night is fun.

What martin said.

I'd also throw Godard's Contempt into the mix, as it's about the troubles of making a movie from another point of view: the writer.

Words are not to be wasted, and you use yours quite well!

Also, Day for Night sticks closer to realism, while 8 1/2 is much more surreal.

It's much better than 8 1/2.
