THE ORIGINAL TAXI DRIVER ?

When Charlie changes his mind about meeting Diane (the Black club dancer he was to meet for Chinese food) the driver of the cab appears (to me) to be Robert Dinero wearing a wig.

Anybody else see it that way?

It isn’t listed among Dinero’s roles. In fact, whoever it is, the driver isn’t listed at all. Has this been a long-held inside joke between Dinero and Scorsese for all these years?

Nope. Sorry.

And who the *beep* is Dinero?

He’s the guy whose name I misspelled. But you knew that already.

Sorry couldn't resist.

Actually, I appreciated the correction. Realized that I’ve enjoyed his work for so long that I’d grown to spelling his name that way without thinking about it.

Anyway, next time you get a chance if you can freeze frame or whatever take another look. I don’t have it handy right now, but I’d almost be willing to bet money that cab driver is De Niro.
