The only good part was where De Niro gets shot, and starts screaming like a woman. I wanted to see his annoying, douchebag ass get kicked for hours. Would've been much better if he had been killed at the end, after being viciously stomped.

Are you serious? By "todays standards" this film is even better because today the vast majority of movies are slick but empty. The early '70s were a golden age of American movie-making and in my opinion Hollywood's single best period. An average movie made in 70s Hollywood is a very good movie now, and a very good movie from this period is an outstanding movie now. If there was one tenth of the creativity and vision in Hollywood now as there was in the early to mid-1970s then the average standards of modern movies would be much, much improved.

It's only unbelievable for someone who lacks the imagination to believe it. You don't sound like you can accept that people can think a different way to you, and rather than trying to understand why they might, you just yell stuff. Doesn't exactly mark you out as a member of mensa either, does it?

I totally agree with you. That guy was calling idiots people who think that Mean Streets is better than The Godfather or Goodfellas. Well, I certainly think that Mean Streets is better than these two films.

It's amazing how many people come here insulting this masterpiece. Nice to see you're back, these pricks should be stopped.

(By the way, you recommended me a long time ago to start watching some Cassavetes films, so I watched Shadows, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, A Woman Under The Influence and Love Streams. What an original director! His films are great, my favorite being A Woman Under The Influence. I really have to rewatch Love Streams because I felt kind of overwhelmed by it. Thanks for bringing him to my attention.)

To each his own, I think Goodfellas & The Godfather are much better than MS, it was good, especially during the second half of the film but not as great as The Godfather IMHO.
