I'm new to the Dirty harry series and I've only seen the first and 4th before seeing Magnum Force last night! Wow, how did I not see these films before now?? Dirty Harry is so cool in this one and some of the scenarios/lines are ridiculously good! It has some really good R Rated action, chase sequences were filmed really well, and overall, the story of a death squad police force is just uber awesome! I'm so excited now to check out the 3rd and 5th and judging off this one, I will be buying the bluray series as soon as possible!
Anyone else just love this movie? It gets the coveted 10 out of 10 for this guy!
Totally agree!! Really is an awesome movie... very stylish, good story and action and really quite brutal even by today's standards. Dirty Harry, Magnum Force and Sudden Impact are the best IMO, but The Enforcer and The Dead Pool are definitely worth a watch as well!
LOL, what a coincidence (we've spoken on some of the James Bond boards), I'm in the same boat as you, even though I'm a 36 year old action/movie buff I'd never actually seen the Dirty Harry movies. I remember seeing bits and pieces of The Dead Pool when I was a kid and it was coming on HBO a lot, but I never saw the whole thing and I remember nothing. I have been meaning to watch them for a while and about a month ago I watched Dirty Harry which I really enjoyed and just now got around to Magnum Force which I finished about an hour ago. I liked it a lot more than the first which was great but I found a little disturbing. This one just kept me entertained and interested in the unfolding plot, even though a lot of it was pretty easy to guess. I liked the rivalry between old Harry and this little gang vigilantes just out of the academy. Particularly between Harry and Davis (David Soul) which I felt they kind of wasted. They built it up as them being great shots, the guy beats Harry in the shooting competition, and since he's the main bad guy who killed Harry's friend I figure it's going to end with the two of them drawing down on each other and Harry blowing him away. But no, they jump on their motorcycles, race across a couple of roofs and the guy just crashes and falls to his death.

HAHA Nice!!! Yeah, I totally know your name and we are the same age! I just turned 37 myself!!
I'm really glad I got around to these too!! And I did end up getting the Dirty Harry collection on BLuray because of how much I loved this film in particular. It has a great flow to it and truly great moments, like with his hot little Asian Neighbor and the vigilante cops angle was awesome!!
I get what your saying on the ending and a mano y mano kind of thing could have been cool, but I liked the big chase sequence! Though how the one cop just falls off the building into the water and we are to assume he dies was a bit of a stretch!
Overall, I find myself rating this one the best, but I do love The Dead Pool for the cast and the 80s vibe! And I get what you mean on the original too! I think that's what I like about it a lot. Its very gritty and "dirty" which makes for a fantastic period piece. I love how these are all R Rated action! These films made me a huge fan of Eastwood, who really, aside from The Perfect World and Gran Torino, I never much got into or watched anything he did.
Let me know when you check them all out and what you think of them overall!
I've always liked Eastwood but I haven't seen a whole lot of his stuff. Growing up my dad was big into Spaghetti Westerns and I saw most of his. Plus stuff like Unforgiven, Escape From Alcatraz, In The Line Of Fire, Heartbreak Ridge, Pink Cadillac (a weird 80's movie he did), those movies he made with the monkey and a not-too-bad mystery from the 00's I rented once for the hell of it called Blood Work. But I haven't seen Gran Torino, Million Dollar Baby or until now the Dirty Harry movies.

I'm not a fan of Westerns in general, but The Man With No Name trilogy (A Fistful Of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly) is top notch. And The Unforgiven of course. Pink Cadillac is kind of fun and really 80's. It's sort of a buddy comedy with Clint Eastwood and Bernadette Peters on the run from some white supremacists. It's as strange as it sounds.
I just finished with the Dirty Harry series, and while I wasn't as crazy about The Enforcer I really loved the two 80's installments. Sudden Impact was better, and I liked seeing Harry in some small/sleepy town and the plot was good. The Dead Pool was pretty 80's, and not the best, but I found it very entertaining and remembered a few parts from HBO as a kid. I thought the ending with the "sh!t outta luck" line and the harpoon was epic.

This is one of a handful of Eastwood movies I enjoyed. If you liked this I'd recommend seeing his 60s/70s westerns except Joe Kidd. I did like Pale Rider and to lesser extent Unforgiven. His other non-western movies run hot and cold..
