Most probably the coolest film character ever depicted on screen!!

Only Tyler Durden will be close. About Elliot Gould's performance and mannerisms, I dont have words to explain this, But he is totally cool.

WHAT YOU GUYS THINK???

reply

One of the coolest of the decade and it's funny that Altman apparently wanted to show him as a loser out of step with the times but Gould still makes him cool with his easy going but quick witted delivery. Great movie. All kinds of detail you pick up on multiple viewings.

I prefer Elliot Gould's Marlowe over Humphrey Bogart and all the rest. I figured people would call me crazy for that.

reply

Bogey's Marlowe works for the movies he was in. Gould's Marlowe works for this one. I really love them both.

Yes, agreed...

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

He really was, it was a great performance. Really laid back, calm and collected in every scene. It's how i wished I reacted to people instead of blowing up all the time.

Yeah man. I see the movie repeatedly and still dont get bored!!!

reply

Absolutely. Goulde's Marlowe is one of the my top 10 favorite movie characters of all-time, and the main reason I can rewatch this movie again and again.

reply

Well, that's pretty funny you should compare those two characters - we watched Fight Club last night, The Long Goodbye tonight.
