The Sound
I know that Altman was big on characters talking over each other because it was more naturalistic, but he lays it on a bit too thick in this movie. Seems like half the movie has background noise - biggest offender being the dog...
(...yeah, we get it, the dog barks a lot. Move on...)
...and the sound is so contrary to what we expect from a movie that it's anything but natural in the way it draws attention to itself.
It's an excellent movie, with a lot of style, but the sound is ugly as hell.
