It Makes Augustine's Credibility as a Hood

About Augustine's attack on his girlfriend. Without this act of casual brutality a gangster like him is nothing but mean faces & threats. To be sure most of any gangster's business is done by making faces & threats but every now & again they have to do something like this to remain valid & keep their victims in line.

Best scene in the entire film. And there were quite a lot of good scenes, too.

I agree about 90%. The close runner-up would be when Marlowe shoots "buddy" Lennox at his hideaway in Mexico. It is so unexpected & such perfect 'Street Justice'. The first time you see the film it practically hits you in the face.
