Help! TCM Cut Out on Me (Spoiler or Two)

I was watching on WatchTCM.com. It really irritates me that they give an "expiration" date, but I was watching on the last day, but at 1:15 a.m. The movie froze about 20 min. from the end, and then it had disappeared from the roster. Side rant: It really ticks me off that the expiration date doesn't mean the whole day.

Back to the issue: So they're fighting and shooting, and Elspeth gets shot and one of the guys is on the ground, and... well, that was that.

It's not that it's a great film but it irks me not having seen it to the end. I hate to ask for a description, but I have no choice (can't seem to find it through my local library). So...if anyone cares to reply, I'll certainly read it.

The night ended just after your film cut off. Elspeth getting shot (fatally, as we learn not long after) was the point of no return, as the Gutshalls are bent on revenge. Zeb warns the Feathers that his father and brother are coming to attack them, but when Skylar Feather is ambushed by the Gutshalls while attempting to get help, Chickie Feather seems to believe Zeb set him up and shoots Zeb. Hawk is already mortally wounded, and walks out and gets finished off. (Thrush had already been beaten to death by his father, who had more or less lost his mind by the end of the movie.) Villum and Ludie are killed by Zack as they rush the house. The movie ends without a clear resolution, as the screen changes to sepia and freezes, with various shots of the remaining characters. For some reason, I get the impression that Zack and Ronnie escape together (it looked like Guthsall had had enough of killing), but I may just be optimistic.

By the way, they never did get to see the end of Forbidden Planet.

I take it the Forbidden Planet comment is LOL. Hey, thanks for the rest of it. Geez, quite a shoot 'em up. It may come around again, but at least I can picture the rest of it in my mind (if I care to keep it there is another matter!).

But I do appreciate your response. I suppose the ending is quasi-symbolic, the futility of violence, etc.

Oh...I meant to ask--is there any voiceover at the end? There was near the beginning, by Roonie, and as a POV mechanism, it's not carried through, which I thought was odd.

There was no voiceover at the end. I suppose since there was a voiceover at the beginning, one might assumed Roonie lived through it all.

I agree with your impression of the ending - seven murders, and for what?

There was a quick TV screen shot of Forbidden Planet. Mr Gutshall walked in and turned off the TV, and Villum protested that "They haven't finished killing that monster yet" or something like that.

For further answers, I guess we'd have to get a ho0ld of the book - Amazon has copies for a "mere" FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS.

Yeah, what's up with that? Are they made of platinum? Hard to get through library, too (both book and movie). But the library's great at getting ahold of things, so I could persist and ask them to look for them. Side note: I had really wanted to see and read Seconds, and managed to get them through the library even though the book's out of print. So they're very good at coming through! (I recommend both book and movie, if you're into a dystopian-type genre.)

I've found out that I can get a copy of the book through the library. I'm looking forard to seeing how the book wraps things up.

You might enjoy The Moonshine War (Alan Alda, Richard Widmark, Wil Geer).
