Jack's age in this
I believe he was about 36 or so when he did this film but he looked much older than forty, especially with that unusuallly long and deep crease across his forehead. It was distracting but he was great.

shareI was thinking the same thing...i think they started putting more make up on him in later films...cause i swear he looks younger in movies that came out 7-8 years later
also at 36 isnt he a lil old for that kinda detail?
I think that was partly the point. Budduskey is about 36, close to having 20 years in at which point he can retire at 50% pay. He's highly immature, still acting like a 19-year old, and his navy job (Signalman) probably is not useable in the civilian world. He's also a typical Jack Nicholson anti-hero, a decent-hearted but scary oddball, on your side, but you don't really want him as your friend.
shareI think films like The Last Detail, along with Chinatown, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and others he appeared in round about the early- to mid-seventies, show what a damn handsome man Jack was when he was younger.
"Eat a sandwich. Drink a glass of milk. Do some fvcking thing."
Life in the military was especially stressful for an enlisted man back then and you aged faster. E6's today are a dime a dozen in the Navy and Air Force, but back in those days, rank was tough and being an NCO or Petty Officer meant something, but now they're just Airmen or Seamen with more pay
