When Mule, Badass, and Meadows are on the train, Meadows is sleeping and they point to something. All of a sudden, Meadows gets up running from them, then comes back to his seat sobbing. What happened?
shareAs somebody else pointed out, they were the carrots that he had stolen from that old lady with the shopping cart. We now have had it established that Meadows was an habitual thief, a kleptomaniac. Had a bad case of sticky fingers.
Why did he suddenly bolt? I think he was just coming out of a nap when Buddusky and Mule noticed the pilfered carrots protruding from his sleeve. Probably in a stupor, he thought they were the police come to bust him for shoplifting or theft, which he had had trouble with before he joined the Navy (as he had explained to them). So it was a case of him being momentarily disoriented. In a state of fright and panic, he took off running.
