While watching this, my mum suggested that Tom Cruise would have been perfect for Buddusky had this been made in the Nineties.

He would not equal Nicholson's performance IMHO.

Nicholson's performance in the role of Buddusky would be awfully hard to match. Don't know about Tom Cruise, but I think Willem Dafoe might have pulled it off in the 90s.

That being said, this movie is a classic that does not need to be re-made. Ever.

Steve Buscemi or Billy Bob Thornton would have been good. Cruise is a pantywaist.
