Most Under-rated 1970's Films?

This has to be one of the most under-rated, and/or over-looked films of that era. Nicholson is excellent, his co-stars are also good, and the film carries a strong message. I would also suggest SAVE THE TIGER, and MINNIE AND MOSKIVITZ as under-rated 70's flicks, and given more time would think of others.

What other 1970's films are very under-rated?

The Cassandra Crossing, Avanti among others

"the conversation" most definitely, and i love "phantom of the paradise", should be higher up on the 'cult' lists, i like it much better than "the roxky horror picture show". and some lucio fulci's giallos were great, and overlooked by many argento's works.

Cinderella Liberty, I believe, is often overlooked. It's one of my favorites.

I just purchased The Last Detail as a blind buy. Can't wait for it to get here.

It's a likable film :). The cast work really well together and Nicholson is great.

The Seven-Ups (1973) with Roy Scheider, very under appreciated 70's cop flick.

I don't even need to pause for thought on this one: "Sorcerer" (1977)

The film that unjustly ruined William Friedkin.

1970s was the best decade of small budget films we have seen. Probably because the technology to make those films had become more affordable for filmmakers who werent necessarily connected with the biggest studios. Here is a few of the "lesser known" films of the decade that I have found interesting.

Get Carter: 1971
Johnny Got His Gun: 1971
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie: 1972
Solaris: 1972
The Sting: 1973
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: 1973
Amarcord: 1973
The Wicker Man: 1973
The Outlaw Josey Wales: 1976
Alice Sweet Alice: 1976
Black and White in Color: 1976
The Warriors: 1979
The Marriage of Maria Braun: 1979
Mad Max: 1979

How is "The Sting" underrated? Jesus, it won Best Picture.

and there was a movie called 'The Wanderers', in '78 or '79.

also I agree with 'Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia.'
That movie makes Best AND Worse lists.

Slaughterhouse Five, and Strawdogs seem to missing from these lists.

So is Last Tango in Paris.

Sex and violence may not attract a mass audience, but it does not make for a bad film.

Under-rated AND un-sung .... How about "Massacre at Central High"? Quentin Tarantino has said that this is one of his all-time favorites.
