What's Heineken ?

"It's the finest beer in the world."

Surely that belongs in the goofs section ?

To some it still is....Plus you have to remember this is a period piece. The beer selection was nothing like now. Hell in the 80's in high school, Lowenbrau and Heineken were top shelf beers..

reply

If my memory serves me correctly, by the 80's Lowenbrau in this country was being brewed by Miller's and was absolute swill. Also I was in Amsterdam in the 70's before Amstel was a lite beer and personally found it to be superior to Heineken.

Only two things are actually knowable:
It is now and you are here. All else is merely a belief.

reply

So true. Back then Lowenbrau was still a German made beer. Heinie was widely considered the best. Oh, how times have changes and brands diluted.

I wonder if David Lynch knew this line before he wrote Blue Velvet

In the USA, it might had been unknown in the early 70s.

Now even James Bond drinks it!

Haha - yeah - it's funny, I'm pretty sure Mule, Bad Ass and Meadows knock back some Pabst Blue Ribbon in their hotel room as well!

He actually said the name wrong in the movie Buddusky refer to it as "a bottle of Heinekens" when Meadows asked what's Heinekens Buddusky replied its the finest beer in the world president Kennedy used to drink it.funny how earlier in the movie when Meadows has his first beer a Schlitz Buddusky declared that to the best beer in the world they then got a room and drank more Schlitz and Pabst

reply

In the mid 1970's when I first drank a bottle of Heinekin, Heinekin was considered one of the best beers available as in "ritziest beer".
