If you like this movie...

.... make darn sure you hear the soundtrack of the original London cast with Ian Gillan as Jesus. I'm an old guy and reading through these comments realized some people may not have heard the 'original'. The movie music was good, this is better.

I TOTALLY AGREE with you! Murray Head was the best Judas EVER and Ian Gillan was just awesome. That's the version I grew up with.

As much as I love Carl Anderson, Murray Head also made a brilliant Judas. In fact, that was the original reason I bought the Chess album at age 13. It starred the original Judas. Imagine how pleased my grandparents (who had bought me the Chess album) were when they heard me tell them that was the reason I wanted it for Christmas.

There was a wonderful book on the different versions (London Concept, London Stage, Broadway and movie IIRC). I wish I knew the title as I would like to read it again.

Definitely agree, rwsmith. That original studio recording is the one I always come back to.

I recently heard the latest recording - the West End production with ALW's "authorised" re-orchestrations - and it left me very cold indeed. Not a patch on Ian Gillan or Murray Head.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Agree. Also, although a foreign version, the Czech version with Kamil Strihavka and Daniel Barta is really good. Strihavka has a much more 'rock' voice than Neeley.

Totally agree. The original is timeless.

I enjoyed the Lyceum Tour. Thought it was exciting, emotional, and faithful.
