Soundtracks-Change in Lyrics?

The old broadway version, Gethsemane, Jesus sings "nail me to the cross and break me" but in the movie, Ted Neeley sings "nail me to the cross and rape me."
Why? The first version makes more sense and also alliteration. Also, the was the song "Could we Start Again, Please" made for the movie, or was it also in the original play?

He sings "break," it's just hard to tell because of his accent and the way he sings it.

"Could We Start Again, Please" was not on the original album, but it was in the play. It was added because the authors felt that Mary Magdalene and apostle Peter needed more vocal opportunities.

It is a pretty song, and touching, the way it was presented in the film.
