I Don't Know How to Love Him
Anyone here think this is one of the best songs in the film? It gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it

shareYeah, I do. It's had the edge taken off it by becoming one of those songs people sing as a stand-alone piece of pop music, but in context it's still moving.
But one reason I like JCS as a piece of theatre (I don't actually like most of the shows Andrew Lloyd Webber has written) is because so much of it fits together like a piece, rather than being just a collection of songs. In my view, many of his later works have been more like a concert of individual pieces strung together on a theme.
You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
I did theater for years and go tired of hearing it because everyone used to sing that and Memory for their audtions. I was an understudy to the role so I had to really dig deep to take it from a different angle when I had to go on.
IMO, Could We Start Again, Please? Is an amazing song that gets overlooked. When I saw the 1997 production in London, they sang it up on a riser as Jesus was down below getting whipped and tortured-it was a very moving scene and i have never seen it done again that way.
Re: "Could We Start Again, Please?"
I am in complete agreement.
I think I shall never pee on life as lovely as a tree
"Could We Start Again, Please?" and "The Garden of Gesthamame" and all the songs sung by Judas...."We are occupied. Have you forgotten how put down we arrrrrre?* gives me shivers!
shareWell it sums up 2,000 years of controversy: the mystery of Jesus being God AND Man (allegedly,) and everyone to this day struggling to understand what that means.
I'm amazed at how many "Christians" say that Jesus was not a man.
I Don't know how to love him and Could we start again please? are tied for goosebumps.
Was this supposed to be a time travel movie? I always thought that they were going back in time to try to prevent Jesus' crucifixion, and found that it was destined to happen. That's what I got from the song, Could we start again, please?
When I first heard it, it wasn't in the movie, but in 1988 or 89 when the Bravo Channel was running an A&E Biography-like show about ALW. Yvonne Elliman was standing in a church-like building singing it in front of a stain-glass window; that alone gave me the shivers. It went on to say who else sang that song: Helen Reddy and Petula Clark. I heard Helen Reddy sing it when I used to play the radio at night. It gave me shivers then, too.
What was the song really supposed to be about? I never thought it was about Mary Magdalene desiring Jesus sexually. I thought it was about her meeting him and being so moved that she turned away from being a prostitute.
That song would be great if someone were doing a YouTube tribute to the 1962 version of The Phantom of the opera. What *did* Petrie really want from Christine, anyway?
I Don't Know How To Love Him is a good song, but I really get chills (and almost tears) in Could We Start Again Please. Especially when Peter comes in with his solo. I was a part of that play this past weekend in a local theatre. The actors playing Jesus and Mary Magdalene were amazing and gave wonderful performances.
I love Jesus Christ and am 100% proud!
