I just saw it again on TCM

And I was amazed. I remember not quite liking it when I saw it in 1973. Perhaps I was not ready for machine guns, tanks and jets buzzing the characters.

But on this second viewing I absolutely loved it, and couldn't take my eyes and ears off it. Maybe I have matured or maybe I just see things differently now. I don't know. But I now realize it's a very powerful and very visual presentation of the rock opera. I give it an 8/10.

One interesting thing I discovered as the hosts were discussing the film afterwards is that the late, great Zero Mostel's son Josh Mostel played King Herrod. Fascinating.
